final project by tatiana alvarez bedoya

Tatiana Alvarez Bedoya
Final Project

The person I admire is Father Rafael Garcia Herreros. He was the creator of “Minuto de Dios” and since then he developed a series of projects that continue whit his legacy up to now.
He was born in 1906 in Cucuta. His childhood was happy and he had different excursions with his brothers. Family meetings were very important moments in his home. He dedicated himself to teaching other priest during his first 10 years of priesthood. In 1946, he started to broadcast his first massages on the radio in Cartagena. Then, he continued in Cali, Medellin, and Bogotá. In 1955, the program “Minuto de Dios” appeared in television. It was the beginning of many actions by Minuto de Dios like social work, education, and dwelling and preach. The Father Rafael stood out by his words and actions for a just, equitable, and peaceful country.
The main reason I admire him is because he started to do everything alone and starting from scrap. I also admire him for being a perseverant, creative, and innovative person. He could convince many people to support his ideas and projects like schools, homes, neighborhoods, education for women who are head of families without ever stopping his vocation as a priest.
Also because he was always defended people, the less fortunate and, the most vulnerable people such as poor and marginalized people without obtaining anything in exchange. In spite that through his hands millions of pesos passed. He never took anything for him. And he always lived with humble. He spends the money in people that he defended. For him helps other people was his service.
I consider this the real sense of power mission that God told. The Father Rafael never judge or reject the people who didn´t have anything or had been in bad road. He always looked for to bring a friend hand.
Today every work you can see like the “Banquete Del Million”, schools, neighborhood and corporation “Minuto de Dios”, the television program “Luma”, the INDEC, an editorial, and other biggest projects.
