Walt Disney Bio


Walter Elias Disney
 
 

 He was born on December 5th, 1902 on Chicago, Illinois.
He died on December 15th, 1966 from lung cancer on Burbank, California.
He has been one of the most recognized and successful artists of all times.

When he was a child, his family moved to Missouri. At those days, he began to love nature and wildlife. He had early interest in arts. For that time he used to draw a lot, and he sold often drawings to neighbors to make some extra money.

When he was 16 he was rejected from army, for that reason he joined de Red cross and he was sent to France where he was driving an ambulance while he continued his drawing labor. When he came back, he pursues a career in commercial art. He started a small company, but he felt in bankrupt.

After that, he moved to Hollywood and started to work. In 1932 he won his first studio´s Academy award with the production “Flowers and Trees”. The first mouse he created wasn´t Mickey Mouse: It was Mortimer, and he did it with a co-worker, but this character wasn´t good enough. “Snow white and the seven dwarfs “was the first full animated musical in history, and it´s still considerate one of the great feats of motion picture industry.

 

Disney has a record: he is the person who has won more prizes in arts till now, about 22 Academy awards and 7 Emmy awards among others. He was not only cartoonist, but also, director, animator, screenwriter, and of course entrepreneur. He didn´t think only about motion pictures, also about attraction parks for the American family. He also was a philanthropist and a wild life defender.

In 1955 his dream of a organized and unique thematic park: the first Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Since that time it is open and it have been visited for more than 200 million people, including presidents and kings from all over the world. Walter with his brother Roy co-founded Walt Disney productions, which became later one of the best-known production companies in the globe.

The industry of Walt Disney it´s still growing and has annual revenues of
more than USD$45 billion in the year. And like he said, it is:
“the happiest place on earth... the place where dreams come true"
