An angel of God on Earth – Fredy Vargas

The person that I admire is a nun. Her name is Sandra. She is the director of a retirement house where twenty elderly women live. Around 10 women don’t have a family and the other 10 had been forgotten. They don’t have support from the government or their families.

This institution is a charity eldership. Sister Sandra has knocked on a lot of doors: companies, churches, and people with a good heart. She has been supporting the eldership by 5 years.

I admire her because she is the nicest person that I know. She has done for those women lots of things that their real families haven´t done. Even their families never visit them.

Sister Sandra lives with them 24 hours a day. She lives to take care of them. Her usual activities are batting, cooking, cleaning, feeding, dressing, spoiling and 1,000 more things.

She takes care of 20 women their range from 60 to 90 it isn´t on easy work! The majority of women have serious illnesses that require a lot of care. The most incredible thing is that Sandra earns a little money. She doesn’t make this for money. She makes it for the love of god and other people.

She is the noblest person that I have known. She is happy whit the happiness of others. She is a happy when she helps and I really think that Sandra is an Angel on earth. An angel who wants to teach us the power of service and the power of charity. I think that if the people were like Sister Sandra, this world would be a paradise.

Andrea Biography

John Fitzgerald Kennedy Biography

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29th 1917 at Brookline (Massachusetts). Joseph Kennedy and Rose Fitzgerald were his parents. John F. was their second son. During World War II, their oldest son lost his life, when an airplane exploded above the Canal.

Kennedy studied at Harvard and after he had finished, he also had to serve in the war, but he survived and because of his heroism he saved the lives of his crew.

He was elected as a president in November 1960, after a less than easy election contest. He defeated Richard Nixon and became the youngest (43) to be elected to the White House in American history 'till then. In contrast to Al Smith in 1928 (first Catholic presidential candidate) Kennedy was elected despite of being Catholic.

The 35th, first Catholic, president ended his inaugural address on January 20th in 1961 with the following words: "My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man". During his presidency he passed two crises which had to do with Cuba caused by placing of intermediate range missiles in Cuba by the Russians. Other one was in 1961 about the Berlin Crisis, the problem of West and East Berlin was not solved and it became even worse in August 1961 because of the construction of the Berlin Wall.

On November 22nd 1963 Kennedy visited Dallas with his wife Jackie. He was shot during a riding tour in an open limousine and died after about half an hour. According to the official Warren-report, Lee Harvey Oswald killed the president, but there is serious doubt about this because of many strange things. For example the dying of many witnesses, the killing of Oswald and the problem of how one bullet could have killed the president and also hit the Governor of Texas: the problem of the miracle bullet.

The sad fact is that John F. Kennedy was just forty six years old and left a wife and two children. Camelot had fallen again.

RODRIGUEZ BIOGRAPHY

By: Diana Betancur

Sixto Rodriguez is an american songwriter who has been recently recognized by the documentary film “Searching for Sugar Man”; a film that puts on the screen his life and the singular way in that his career has developed. Rodríguez was born in 1942, in Detroit, Michigan; his parents were Mexican immigrants who worked in the american industries that, by the first half of the 20th century, were starting to employ an increased mexican workforce. During his childhood and adolescence, he faced hard periods of discrimination that happened against mexican people in that region of the United States. This marginalization would be reflected later in his songs.

In 1967, was released his first single “I’ll slip away”; a beautiful and melodious song that went unnoticed that time. In 1970, was released his first album “Cold Fact” on the label Sussex. As his first single, Cold Fact was unsuccessful; it couldn’t obtain the sales that the label and the artist expected in the United States. However, in other countries like Australia and South Africa the album would become very popular later. In 1971, his second album “Coming from reality” was released, but it neither achieved commercial success. Because of these failures, the label decided not to continue working with him.

Rodríguez wasn’t signed to another record label and, as a result, he disappeared from the musical scene. He stayed in Detroit, working in construction industries and earning a low income. By that time, he got married and had three daughters. In 1979 and 1981, he was invited to Australia to offer two concert tours; but, when the tours were finished, he returned to his country and kept his modest life. He always proved a special interest for the politics; he wanted to help his people and, in an attempt to do it, in 1989 he registered for the council in his city; however, he wasn’t successful and didn’t help him the fact that his name was misspelled in the ballot.

While he lived anonymously in The United States, in South Africa, millions of people listened to his albums, and his songs became generational anthems in the hard times of Apartheid. South African people, considered Rodríguez an exceptional artist and they compared him with others remarkable artists like Bob Dylan or John Lennon. His fame was even higher, because it was rumored that he had committed suicide during a concert in the 1970s. The Rodriguez’s life was completely unknown in that country so, people didn’t have any hope to see him playing in a concert.

In 1998, one of his daughters discovered on the internet, a website dedicated to her father. He realized that some people in South Africa was looking for his father, who had become a hero in that country. Soon, Rodríguez was approached for the creators of the website and he traveled to Africa with his daughters. He was received there, like a hero, like the legend that a complete generation had been waiting for many years. He played six concerts that marked a successful return to the musical scene. Since then, Sixto Rodríguez began to get all the recognition that hadn’t had in the beginnings of his career as a musician. He returned to Australia and started a new tour of concerts.

In 2012, was released “Searching for Sugar Man”, an awarded documentary film that tells the story of the Rodríguez’s success in South Africa, the anonymous life that he lived in The United States, the legend that he represents for South African people, and the particular way in that his fans found him after years to think that he was dead. The film showed the world “the greatest 1970's music icon that never was" how has been usually called Sixto Rodríguez, he got the attention of The United States, Europe and many countries around the world that today know his work.

One of the most interest features that attract the attention of the audiences, is the modest way in that he still live. He hasn’t left his modest house, he doesn’t have a car or a cellphone, and the money that he has made with the concert tours, he has gifted to his family and friends. He doesn’t regret not having had success in The United States in the early years of his career; when he is asked about that, he answers with his warm and calm voice "I felt I was ready for the world, but the world wasn't ready for me".
